54 Hit Points: Consistency Creates Conditions

More often than not, a lot of us cannot overlook how our consistency creates conditions in our lives. Simply put, we are a product of our habits and everyday actions.

If we eat too much junk, our body will reflect that. If we do not exercise enough, our body will definitely embody our workout patterns to a T. Therefore, for every action and inaction we choose to implement into our regiment, we end up with our current conditions for better or worse.

I consider it something so obvious, but many of us want to overthink everything. Worst of all, we start coughing up excuses instead of just being honest about it all. All of it is genuinely not that hard if you break it down.

You either do or you do not. Nothing more. Nothing less. Consistency goes in either extreme.

For instance, I am more than aware that I do not choose to exercise as much as I could. Nothing is stopping me from doing a jog in the morning other than myself. No one is preventing me from putting on the jogging shoes and walking out of that door. I choose not to do so.

Yeah, I do not like working out because I find it boring and unpleasant. That is on me. It is not that act of jogging’s fault. I simply choose not to do so each time I have the means and opportunity to run outside around the block.

We put too much blame toward things where we should be just accepting responsibility.

Choosing Wisely for Consistency

However, we also have the luxury of alternatives — lots of them. Though I may not like to run, I do prefer a simple walk. One of my favorite activities in the world is quite mundane, but a nice-paced walk around the neighborhood and listening to music or whatever ends up being a relaxing activity I vastly prefer.

I believe in the empowerment of choice. Many of us will not be like the next person for whatever reason. Someone may like to read novels more than their neighbor. Perhaps this person chooses to cook healthy meals every day as opposed to this other individual who orders takeout every evening.

Prerogative is a privilege in itself. As a society that allows us such choices, we should be more than thankful. But some people act like some random outside force holds them down.

I have come across many others over the years who often complain about aspects they can tweak. As in, they have variables that are adjustable and not set in stone. The conditions in your life stem from consistency. Always.

Part of me wants to be blunt and tell them that they should do something about it then. Nevertheless, there is also that side of me that can relate as well. I would be a hypocrite if I did not admit to faltering on personal choices to do/not do this or that.

Though it is simple in theory, putting something into practice can be difficult when willpower is lacking! After all, talk is cheap. Actions have value.

The Pursuit of “Balance”

Like anyone else, I have had many elements in my life where I certainly could have put more effort toward in some shape or form.

I cannot tell you how many times I decided to “be healthier” and then kind of eased up at some point. Heck, I have gone to the store to buy workout clothes. I then used them once and then stopped wearing them again (what a waste of money, honestly) after a painfully awkward attempt to run down the street made me feel embarrassed.

I tell myself I need to keep the clothes around “just in case,” but that “in case” never ends up happening.

For this instance, exercise is always a healthy thing to do for your well-being. Do you want to be healthier? Then have consistency with healthy choices!

By all means, I was someone who has pushed his body toward an unhealthy state by more than a few dozen pounds. It took a real wake-up call to fix that part of my life. At the very least, my current weight for my frame is more than OK. At the very least, everything is kind of somewhere in the “middle.”

It is technically neither bad or particularity good. It just goes to show how lots of random areas in our existence can end up being a proverbial balancing act.

Deep down, I know I would love to be super healthy, but I do not deserve to be so unless I am willing to go work toward that extreme! Again, it is not that hard to figure out why.

Distributing Your Focus

Truthfully, I would instead focus my current efforts toward other areas. Something I have added more toward my daily activities includes a lot more reading for my amusement. I have never been an avid reader throughout my life. It is a shame. Really, it is a shame.

Perhaps my interests at this stage have shifted a lot. I find reading to be quite enjoyable now that I take my time doing it for leisure.

Legit, I feel a bit happier each day when it ends up being my personal reading time.

Technically, I do read a lot throughout the day, but I guess browsing the likes of Reddit and whatnot is not quite the same. There are so many moving parts in building our lives, which makes me realize how important it is to make sure said moving parts are beneficial rather than hurtful or counterproductive.

Be Like Clay

No matter what state you are in life, as long as the collective components are still malleable, you have more control than you realize.

Consistency creates conditions. If the object of the game is to create ideal conditions, make sure your consistent acts are useful toward shaping a better you than yesterday.

Be like clay and mold your life how you want it to be. Realize, though, that it may take some time to build up toward even some semblance of what you think would be ideal. However, anything worth doing always takes extra time and energy.

This reality is the norm, unfortunately. No shortcuts. We cannot cheat and just ask for the universe to give us a “perfect” form without the work. But I accept this part of the game. We cannot change the rules, so we should instead learn how to play along better.

Be patient. Keep building. Keep forming. The final result will entail everything coming together.

Piece by piece.
